Your House Will Pay by Steph Cha

This book grabbed me, right from the fantastic title and arresting cover. It's a straightforwardly told, and powerful story about a dark moment in LA's history, after the Rodney King riots. It alternates between the points of view of the man whose sister has been shot by a Korean convenience store owner and the daughter of that woman. I think she shows so well how racism begets violence, and how one violent act ripples out, affecting the families of both parties involved. And how difficult reconciliation is when there is a history of racism, a lack of consequences for racist violence, and a denial that it has even happened. I would have liked a more drawn out resolution, but understand that this novel had no easy resolution (as do the problems it turns a spotlight on) and appreciate that she did not tack on a false resolution.
