At least as good as The Fifth Season. I felt like The Fifth Season was an introduction to the politics, history, and geography of this world. But The Obelisk Gate felt more personal, more intimate, and more familial. Jemisin is able to write relationships that feel so unique but universal, so strange but honest. Definitely don't stop after the first book! Can't wait to read the third!
