"One needs not possess a soft heart to feel empathy; one needs only possess a heart."
Rating: ⭐️⭐️⭐️.5/5
Spice: 🌶️🌶️.5/5
What To Expect:
✔️ He falls first
✔️ Touch her and die
✔️ Blood magic
✔️ Fated mates
What It's About:
Fallon, having made some questionable decisions recently, suddenly becomes a brave, weapon-wielding badass. She and the resident shadow-daddy Lorcan continue their mission to overthrow the used-to-be-Fallon's-bestie bad guy whilst getting in over their heads due to rushing in without all the info. People die. Magic is complicated. Loyalties are tested. Our main characters head to some cool new worlds to explore, but the quest-vibes are, sadly, a little lacking.
What I Enjoyed:
Fallon was much more enjoyable in this installment, although seemed to become an instant badass with critical thinking, which was somewhat strange but made her character so much more likeable that I just didn't care. I enjoyed our little trip to the frozen kingdom and there was some nice world building.
What I Struggled With:
Dante was seriously a one-dimensional villain and the resolution of his storyline was seriously anticlimactic for me. Speak of which, this whole book was somewhat unsatisfying. Lore seemed to spend his entire time either being a possessive dickhead or obsessing over getting Fallon naked. Where did my snarky man go??? The book felt like a prequel to the next, rather than a satisfying conclusion to a trilogy. It gets the round up because Cian and Bronwen made me cry, but this book really suffered from pacing issues.
Glad I read it, will probably read the next because I like the author's writing style in general, but this isn't a series I'll be raving about.
