The Crescent Moon Tearoom by Stacy Sivinski
3.0
2.5 rounded up. An interesting premise, an intriguing beginning and a sweet ending, but a somewhat boring and exasperating middle. Clearly historical in setting but not really enough details to fully root it in time. The crux of the conflict hinges on the three protagonist sisters not talking to each other for the majority of the book which had some reasoning behind it within the narrative—and isn’t totally unrealistic—but that created a repetitive cycle of each one of them sneaking out behind the others’ backs over multiple chapters and it got boring and frustrating, which is always the case when you know that the solution is as easy as having one conversation with someone. I absolutely did not care about Violet’s love story (rather disliked the male love interest, but truly he wasn’t developed enough to really care either way), and I found Anne’s fears and stubbornness annoying. I did like Beatrice’s story. But ultimately the whole thing has to do with the sisters acting like somehow getting their own lives and interests mean never seeing each other again and while I understand that people can be fearful of change, it still felt hard to have sympathy for. Maybe if it had been better explored…idk. It still had lovely moments and I enjoyed the tearoom and appreciated that they all had the same power. And that it was about the sisters and their bond front and center and not exclusively romance. Cute, and not the worst ever, but with unmemorable writing and a frustrating conflict.
