Catmagic by Jonathan Barry, Whitley Strieber
2.0
A curious book, this one. I cannot say that I enjoyed it, but do give it credit for being imaginative and different. I found the beginning of the book to be... completely different to what I had expected (the blurb made it sound like an undead cat terrorising a town - it was not that), yet fairly compelling, if unsettling. But it peaked at the halfway mark. After that, it was a tedious, torturous (literally) descent into Hell (literally), that I couldn't wait to be over with. Only finished the book because I'd read so far already that I figured I might as well see it through.
None of the characters were very sympathetic and the cat, which potentially could have been extremely cool, ended up coming off as more of a gimmick. He played an important role at the very beginning; after that didn't do much of anything other than sit around looking scary.
Didn't hate the book, but found it disappointing and more than a bit annoying. Can see how those into Wicca might enjoy it, though.
