I didn't have expectations going into this read, and I absolutely loved the book.

I've lost all my grandparents (never met my grandfathers, they passed before I was born), and I've wrestled with that grief in my lifetime, though not to the extreme of the MC. Loss is a gripping thing and it drives you to strange places, so I don't think the premise of the book was incredibly unbelievable or unrelatable.

I gave this book five stars because I think the characters were both realistic and gentle with each other. I love to see characters develop together and grow to understand and support each other. That is usually all I ask of a romance book, that it not be meaningless but rather purposeful with and kind to its characters.

It stays true to its genre, so if contemporary romance isn't your thing, I wouldn't have unrealistic expectations.  But as far as the genre goes? I loved it.
