How Long 'til Black Future Month? by N.K. Jemisin

3.0

(Note: 3 stars is still a very positive rating for me.)

I have a hard time with short story books. I love reading short stories, but I hate reading collections of them all at once. Still I'm grateful for more Jemisin to read. I'd say about 3 of the stories in here were really great and most of the rest were good.

My favorite stories were “The Effluent Engine”, “Cloud Dragon Skies”, “Cuisine des Mémoires”, “Stone Hunger” (set in the Broken Earth universe), and “Sinners, Saints, Dragons, and Haints, in the City Beneath the Still Waters”. Looking at that list I see I particularly like the stories where Jemisin is channeling New Orleans culture.
