From the Earth to the Moon by Jules Verne

3.0

150 years old this year. Was only a short book, but quite hard to read. Verne’s language is quite archaic and unusually structured, but then I don’t know if he wrote in French and then someone else translated to English. That might explain awkward language? As might the passing of 150 years.
As with other Verne stories, the science is a bit out-dated, and he gets a few things wrong, but he was cutting edge for his time, and the minor gaffs can be forgiven because of the ripping yarns he tells.
This seems to be somewhat of a satire, especially setting up the members of the Gun Club, none of whom seem to be entire. The buried cannon is a brilliant, but impractical idea, and the near miss of the moon is a great touch. The technical details and mathematics drag a bit, and take too long to set up, but otherwise imaginative and original.
