Tony Birch is my favourite unserious academic weapon and his writing seriously ruins me, i dont know if its the far too familiar setting or themes or if i simply connect with the characters too much, but i found myself enjoying this series of poetry more than the novels as i was able to actually put down the damn book when i needed to and recoup before picking it back up and smashing out the last third with minimal issues.
ive said it once and ill say it again, Birch has a way with words that makes me think of magic realism in a way- transporting me to a place that doesn't quite exist but also definitely does, connecting our traumas together and really leaving me blown away with whatever im reading.
