Consciousness: An Introduction by Susan Blackmore, Emily T. Troscianko

challenging informative inspiring reflective slow-paced

4.0

What a wonderful book: this will be my go-to recommendation for an introduction to philosophy of mind from now on. The writing style is thought-provoking and engaging, with thought experiments and a second-person writing style encouraging you to take a step back from the words and think about and feel the problem yourself.

I was familiar with most of the ideas in the book, but the style kept me going the whole way through: in part because I wanted to try the fun thought experiments out myself, and in part because I was so impressed at how the authors managed to convey abstract and often dry ideas in ways that made you really feel them.

It is really an introductory textbook though: it stays on the surface of most of the theories it presents and refuses to offer any explicit opinions, which was frustrating sometimes.
