Oh why are all these endings so bittersweet? I'm happy, but also very sad. Poor Matty.

Next to The Giver this one in my favorite in the quartet. I loved reading Matty's POV and Leader's.

(SPOILER)
I've missed Jonas. I'm so glad he was Leader!
(SPOILER END)

What I loved most about this book was the relationship between Christopher- Kira's dad, and Matty. I felt the father, son relationship almost immediately at the start of the book. It would have been the perfect family symmetry if Kira could have been there too.

I liked the climax in this book more than the last. The hostile forest was a nice touch to the storyline. I'm just glad Kira and Matty could weather it together. Two close friends, who are practically siblings sharing on last journey together. Thanks goodness for Jonas too.

Besides the sad ending to the story, I loved it. This is a story I wouldn’t mind reading again and again.

I can't wait to find out what the next book holds.
