The COVID Bride: Lessons in Wedding Planning from the Girl Who's Seen It All by Sara La Chapelle, Sara La Chapelle

5.0

When I’m not writing speculative fiction, stilting, or learning new Chinese dances, I work as a freelance editor and writer. I proofread and provide developmental feedback on a lot of academic personal statements, but also get a variety of bios, blog posts and other things. While I'd love to primarily edit novels, that's not currently in the cards.

In October 2020, one of my long-term repeat clients asked if I’d be willing to work with her on a book about her many mishaps of trying to plan a wedding during a global pandemic. She and I come from vastly different backgrounds so I wasn’t sure it would be my cup of tea, but I figured it wouldn’t hurt to try. It turned out to be a delightful and rewarding experience, expanding my cultural understanding of the South.

The COVID Bride, by Sara LaChapelle was drafted in the notes app as of Sara’s phone as she went from one crisis to another. It's two parts story and one part advice for planning a wedding (or other big event) during a pandemic or other crisis. If you discover your reception hall or wedding venue suddenly isn't going to work a month before your wedding, Sara has all the tips for getting a replacement lined up and making it work. If you're not interested in the planning advice, but would enjoy seeing how someone can find the humor in a never-ending parade of crises, this is definitely a book to check out.

While our wedding plans (and budgets) couldn't have been more different, I had a ton of fun following Sara’s adventure as things went wrong and she tried to change course to make things work.
