This book is for those who have ever felt lost. I used to be and because there’s no saying when one’s mental health is gonna end up in the bin…I’m glad books like this one exist ❤️
We need stories that kindly remind us that we have agency over our life. Because sometimes our imagination can be our best friend but also, our worst enemy. Don’t let the “what ifs” rule your life.
The writing of this book was gorgeous. I’m not sure if that's because I listened to the audiobook narrated by the lovely Carey Mulligan 🙌 Her voice is like honey and I happen to love British accents 👀 But either way, after doing some research, turns out that the author had a mental breakdown in his early twenties. That explains why he captures so accurately how it feels. He does not shy away from the topic nor over exaggerates it. He just faces the feeling of uselessness face first and I adored it!
I can’t believe that I am giving a book without a main romance plot five stars but here we are 🤯 The theme of this book was too close to my heart to give it anything less!
Lessons learned
- “If you aim to be something you are not, you will always fail. Aim to be you. Aim to look and act and think like you. Aim to be the truest version of you. Embrace that you-ness. Endorse it. Love it. Work hard at it. And don't give a second thought when people mock it or ridicule it. Most gossip is envy in disguise.” omg 😭
- “Never underestimate the big importance of small things” My favorite lesson from this book is how the small things that seem useless or uneventful to you might be the sole reason why someone else’s life is worth living. And you might be one of those reasons, even if you think you’re worthless.
note
- “You’re overthinking it."
"I have anxiety. I have no other type of thinking available.”
OMFG ME. I’m wheezing! 😂
- From Wikipedia: “Haig identifies as an atheist. He has said that books are his one true faith, and the library is his church” Amen 🙏
