My favourite genre of book is analysing humans from a non-human pov. This is that.
The fact it was written in the 50s didn't detract from it too much, for me (beyond the heavy reliance on Freud). Yeah, she has some odd views on transgender and gay people, but she is so free from bias or ✨agenda✨ that these just boil down to her lacking some evidence we have nowadays. There is never any prejudice - all of her descriptions are underlined by a genuine respect for the value of humans, no matter how they behave. It was very refreshing to read someone who for the most part just seemed interested in figuring out the facts about human behaviour, rather than promoting some normative ideology.
