What started as a story of a mystical island and children with magical abilities turned into a deep dive about stereotypes, prejudices, and staying stuck in mindsets and beliefs out of comfort. In addition to the story line of orphanages and social workers and the stress that they deal with and the conditions that they see, the themes in this book are so layered yet written about so beautifully.
It was a great audiobook and I have so many quotes and tabbed pages. I love that Linus was changed in the end finding love and family in spite of it not looking like what others feel it should look like. And he found love when he wasn’t looking for it. It was a great journey told in a way that seemed fantastical, but is really about the real world that we live in and I found it a great read.
