The Family Upstairs by Lisa Jewell
2.0
This is the second book by Lisa Jewell I read, and I really didn't like this one at all, for the exact same reason I didn't like the first - the stupid fairy tale ending!
Here's my other issues:
●lack of character development. You're dumped into a story meeting new characters, but it seems like you're missing several chapters.
●predictable and over-the top. The author tries so hard to make an interesting and compelling story, but she throws too much into the story; nothing is believable. In fact, it's barely plausible. It's like A Series of Unfortunate Events (Lemony Snicket) meets Lloyd Christmas and Harry Dunne from Dumb & Dumber for adults.
● story speed. This book was so inconsistent. It starts off okay, then it slows way down, then it starts speeding up, back to slow, then it's in overdrive, then it's slow (and predictable)
● finally the fairy tale ending. Just gtfoh. Does Lisa Jewell think she's Colleen Hoover writing another Verity?
