The Selection by Kiera Cass
3.0
I would give this 3.5 if GR would allow. The book reminded me of a mix of different stories I have read over the last year. That isn't bad, just a fact.
I liked the back story of how Illea came to be (history of the country and monarchy) and that there is a deeper story here than that the Prince needs to find a Princess and the love triangle. The theories that Maxon has behind the rebel attacks and that they are looking for something is interesting and I am curious to learn more about it.
The characters are somewhat typical. America is a strong person and despite growing up in a lower caste, knows what she wants and stands up for herself. I like that about her. We also learn a bit about both the guys (Maxon and Aspen) to pick up on their personalities and what is important to them.
I am looking forward to reading the next book in the series.
