Agnes Grey by Anne Brontë

5.0

I'd read Tenant Of Wildfell Hall before, but this was my first time reading Agnes Grey and it is SO different from Emily & Charlotte Brontë's novels (not a bad thing, I like all Brontës - except Branwell lol). It reminded me more of Jane Austen's Sense & Sensibility or Mansfield Park, but with a protagonist who actually has a job, than Jane Eyre or Wuthering Heights. Agnes is very practical in the best way, and tbh as an occasional Park Slope babysitter I related to her frustrations as a governess for wealthy children. It's short - under 200 pages - so read it if you haven't yet!
