Where I Belong by Alan Doyle
3.0
This was one of my 12 recommended books by friends for my one of my reading challenges. I have never really listened to the band Great Big Sea but they are/were fairly well known in Canada so I knew who they were. This is one band member's memoir and he narrated the audiobook himself. I enjoyed learning more about the Newfoundland way of life since it is so far and removed from my own, and many of the stories were funny or endearing. There were a few that I thought went on too long, like when he talks about the code he and his adolescent guy friends made up to talk about girls starting to wear bras, etc. Wasn't my favorite memoir but I enjoy the genre as a whole and his Newfie lilt made it fun to listen to. Plus, since I have little interest in the band, it was nice that the story went from childhood to when the band started. I believe he's written other memoirs about his time in the band if you're interested in that.
