I had a hard time getting into this one and I'm still not quite sure why.  I don't know if it's because it took me awhile to differentiate between the side characters since they were all introduced close together or if it's because it took awhile for the two storylines to connect to each other.  By the end of the book, Lola's reason for fleeing Hong Kong makes more sense, but for most of the book it felt like it wasn't necessary for her to have that storyline to get her to the island in the first place.  Overall, the second half was definitely better, but for the most part, I never felt compelled to keep reading.
