Love Letters to the Dead by Ava Dellaira
3.0
Trigger Warning: use of pot, drugs, and alcohol, LGBTQ+, partying, divorce, rape, use of God's name in vain (but no other cursing), sex,
Love Letters to the Dead was a book that I found quite interesting mainly because of its epistolary style but also because of the variety of people it was addressed to. Kurt Cobain, Judy Garland, Elizabeth Bishop River Phoenix, Amelia Earheart, Amy Winehouse, Janis Joplin, Allan Lane, Jim Morrison, John Keats, E. E. Cummings, and Heath Ledger.
One of the things that I wasn't a huge fan of in this book was the light in which it mentions Jesus. As a Christian myself, I always hope for a proper representation of Christianity, not just the stereotype of so-called "Christians." I want the view of a Christian who acts Christ-like, not in a know-it-all way but in the way of Jesus. That's certainly not what I got here. Overall, maybe the way it was portrayed hits home for some people, but it rubbed me the wrong way.
This book is one that I've given 3.5-stars, adding points for enjoyability and taking off some for the stuff I didn't like. While I don't believe the book was out-of-the-park amazing, I do believe it was a good read overall. It was fairly clean language-wise, but the other trigger warnings do make it geared more towards and older teenage audience.
That's all I've really got to say about this book, though. Hope that helped you choose your books! God bless!

Spoiler
In this book there's an Aunt who is a big fan of Jesus and this "Jesus Man" who is sorta dating her and also scamming money off of her. There's the whole sex talk with the constant barrage of "make sure you abstain" reminders, but also the talk of church as something that's forced upon you on Sundays. This book is one that I've given 3.5-stars, adding points for enjoyability and taking off some for the stuff I didn't like.
