A sweet book, a bit as if Cormac McCarthy wrote gentle prose about kindness. Excellently drawn characters and an unlikely buddy / heroic journey story set in a richly researched Reconstruction Texas. Much enjoyed all the details. The book is a bit claustrophobic in having only the two main characters, but it's a small story and well told.
