While this is definitely an informational picture book, it doesn't really read like one for two reasons: Fleming's writing is so beautifully poetic, and scientists simply don't know much about giant squid. The real stand-outs in this book, however, are Rohman's incredible illustrations that swathe the subject in tempting mystery. It's a little more text heavy than I usually use for story time, but it seems to hold the kids' attention.
