Shadow and Bone by Leigh Bardugo

5.0

Ah! This story was beautiful and yet so complex...or the world building was anyway.

There was so much to this place that Leigh Bardugo created that at times I felt myself getting lost in it. It was hard to keep up with all the different terms as I kept forgetting them. Despite this though, the story was unbelievably amazing. I had no idea that when I started this book I would love it so much.

The characters were entirely believable and the emotions of the main character felt so real and raw. Like, for example, what she did to be able to stay and grow up with her very best friend, Mal.

And the Darkling. *Swoon* Yes, he is a villain. And yes he did and will probably continue to do some very bad things, but I love him anyway. I feel that there is something there that we can't completely see that causes him to be that way he is. It's something that runs deep. I can't wait to find out what it is.

This is a story I would recommend to those that love a good fantasy. And maybe even to those that love The Mortal Instruments because I find that Darkling and Sebastian Verlac are similar some in ways. There is evil in them...but maybe something else too. Those kinds of characters, in my opinion, are the most interesting. I like a little mystery.

I had so much fun reading this book and I can't wait to read the rest of the series!
