Desert Flower by Waris Dirie, Cathleen Miller

5.0

Waris Dirie's story is powerful and moving. It's the plaintive cry of a victimized daughter lost in the desert as well as that of a young girl chasing her dreams.

I've not read anything so eye-opening, not just about the harshness of real nomad life in the desert about also about Female Circumcision.

A completely unnecessary practice designed to mutilate, victimize and by extent, subdue women in Somalia so that they remain docile and obedient to their husbands.

This is as good a book as any at bringing exposure to child abuse as well as balancing the scales in terms of gender equality.

A must read. Definitely.
