Ben Hope is ex-military who now makes a living by resolving kidnapping case involving children. Usually in an unorthodox and violent manner. When he is approached by a wealthy man to find a elder man who is missing and has been for 70 years, he reluctantly takes the job. It's not the missing man that is import but his manuscript detailing secrets of alchemy. Ben is thrust into a hunt that is not simple, especially as there are those opposed to him getting his hands on the manuscript and would prefer to have it themselves. Violent death follows him where ever he goes through France on his quest.

This is a fast paced action thriller that grabs you at the beginning and doesn't let go. An enjoyable read and what fiction is all about. There are a few questionable plots twists but that doesn't really matter. Worth reading and as it's the first in the series I shall read more.
