The Song of Achilles by Madeline Miller
4.0
Beautifully written retelling of a classic tale. While I was not very impressed with Miller’s Circe, the unfolding drama and action of this story elevated her already solid prosework to an exciting read.
Homer’s epics are powerful and will be interpreted again and again for new audiences in new times and new places. The story bent of this iteration was filled with dear, close emotion. I am not the type to rave about romantic works, but this was truly lovely for me - not in the least bit because positive well-written homoromantic works are something I don’t encounter much. Now, I must reread The Iliad again, and get lost in its language once more. If Miller has done one thing well, it is open up these treasures to new audiences. Solid work.
