This book lives in the tension between the text and pictures. London's text teaches readers about still life paintings and how they're, well, still. The painting Zelinsky draws, however, bustles with life and motion, spilling off the painting and into the room! The contrast between the ignorant narrator and the strategically planned illustrations make this book lots of laughs.
