A Little Life by Hanya Yanagihara

4.0

Unpopular opinion.

While undeniably heartbreaking and tragic, I couldn’t shed a tear like many others. Jude's pain is palpable, but I struggled to understand his continuous self-destruction. Yes, PTSD is severe, but it was frustrating to see him reject the love and support from those around him. He has money, friends, family—so why inflict more suffering on himself? It felt like he was making his life worse, even when he had opportunities for healing. The writing is stunning, though sometimes overly verbose. Ultimately, it's a beautifully written story, but Jude’s endless spiral kept me from giving it 5 stars.
