The description of the book says "From the porch of his home, Charles Lamosway has watched the life he might have had unfold across the river on Maine’s Penobscot Reservation" and that drew me in immediately. The protagonist, Charles Lamosway, is a white man connected to the Reservation through his beloved stepfather, Frederick, who is Native American. And from his porch he watches as his daughter lives her life not knowing who her biological father is. He's also caring for his ailing mother. There's a lot to unpack in this one and explores family, legacy and bloodlines. The pacing was a little off for me and it really amped up at the very end almost to the point of feeling a bit rushed compared to the rest of the book. The audiobook narration was really well done but I preferred to read this one in print as it was easier for me to focus.
