Panorama by Lilia Hassaine
2.0
Obviously I had a lot of thoughts about this book. The concept has issues. I think perhaps Hassaine had the idea of a neighborhood made of glass and didn't really think that much farther. The fact of the identity-based neighborhoods (ie the feminist quartier, the singles quartier, the eco quartier) belies a more general issue with a lack of integrative ideas or analysis—just as single feminists don't exist, neither do issues which impact both class and gender. But really I think the biggest issue was that the concept didn't end up impacting the crime. It could have happened anywhere inside or outside the transparence. In fact, part of it ended up necessarily breaking the rules of the transparence just to make sense.
