The Swan Book by Alexis Wright

4.0

Wright draws together a unique use of language and Indigenous concepts to create a holistic worldview in The Swan Book. Her writing is thoroughly engaging, and encourages readers to read, feel, think and understand the truly intersectional and interconnectedness of the issues of climate change, race, class, and interestingly enough, terrorism and refugee status. Her insights are critical but do not harshly sanction, and are tempered by a deep understanding of the influences of apathy and nonchalance that breed inaction. The Swan Book encourages us to look beyond the binaries of good and evil for solutions in an increasingly self-defeated world, and reminds us that other horizons exist.
