Heart of Darkness is an important book, but not an enjoyable one. The writing and characters are all bland, its pacing is so unbelievably slow for a 100 page book, and the few interesting details are skimmed over and presented in the most vague way possible. Even if Conrad was attempting to critique the racist colonisers the story follows, it reads as racist regardless and not in a reflective critical way.
