Phaedra by Laura Shepperson

I have very mixed feelings about both the book and the audiobook.

The book:
I like how the story is structured, it felt very theatrical. The writing is pretty plain, and modern. I would have liked Trypho’s character to have been a bit more fleshed out. Otherwise I enjoyed the overall story that was told here.

The audiobook:
While I enjoy audiobooks that have a full cast (or multiple) narrators this one felt a little over produced. Having the Night Chorus be voiced by multiple overlapping voices had a great theatrical effect but made it a bit difficult to fully comprehend. It felt over the top at the beginning. And again, there are odd pronunciations of some characters (these were not as grating as they were in Jennifer Saint’s Hera)
