Make the Season Bright by Ashley Herring Blake

Did not finish book. Stopped at 39%.
I really tried to like this book but I stopped at page 138. Reasons why include:

-Everyone who is not white is just brown. That’s it. Not any descriptive types of brown just “their brown skin, her brown skin” everywhere. It’s 2024 do better. There are so many resources.

-Sweet potato and sour cream pie.

-No research into the area parts of this story take place in. There is no contemporary world where you’re getting from small town Michigan with a house on the lake practically to a town “just outside of Indianapolis “ with 3/4 tank of gas. A simple google could’ve fixed that.

-One of the main fmcs seemed very unlikable and I doubt there would’ve been much character growth in the novel. She was the one who left her fiancé at the alter, but has the nerve to be angry when 5 years later said ex fiancé acts like she doesn’t know her. What did you expect? And then to be aggressively passive aggressive about forcing her ex to notice her/interact with her/admit they knew each other?! WTF. Ew. I have no doubt when they inevitably got back together she wouldn’t have changed a bit and would’ve still been manipulating.

I was really excited to read a sapphic Christmas rom com but this disappointed me.
