Skyclan's Destiny by Erin Hunter
adventurous
slow-paced
3.0
I listened to all of this in one day (I really love MacLeod Andrews!) but I'm not super invested in skyclan in general. I like sharpclaw, but leafstar really bothered me for most of this book. It was an interesting idea to bring in a bit of a second pov, but it all built to something that had very obviously coming the whole book. Ah, but they're books for kids! I hear you say. Here's something I love reminding people: kids aren't dumber, they're just younger. Little Jess would've figured it out as fast as adult Jess did.
Some of the ideas/ways of clan life were really different here, and I was interested to see it all play out. The same petty drama though, and the same super fast "romance" as the four clans we already know. (it really was nice to have a break from the forbidden love with a cat in another clan thing, though). It was a whole lot of nothing happening for over 400 pages then tons of action in the last 20 or so. I truly didn't care about the battle at the end, but if I had, it would've felt anticlimactic anyway.
To be fair to this book, I'm catching up on the supplemental stories and I did very recently read firestar's quest so 🥹🥰 I shouldn't compare the super editions against each other (it might've been written by a different Erin anyway!), but I can't help it when reading them so close together.
