Pretty weird book about a mother and daughter, neither of whom should have had kids. The mother abandons her marriage to become the lover of the guru in an ashram, abandoning her child to the care of others, in a place where child sexual abuse takes place. When the guru takes a new lover the mother becomes a beggar until her parents take her back. She then takes up with a married artist for a while, but he eventually leaves her too. In present day she is losing her memory and her daughter is having to care for her. The daughter is also in a loveless marriage, has a kid to give her something to do. She is an artist who doesn’t really seem to do much art. She draws the same picture over and over again. Turns out this picture is of the artist lover of her mother, and it seems the daughter had a relationship with him after he left the mother. Both people seemed pretty terrible and I think people should stop having children unless they really want the child.
