Rebecca by Daphne du Maurier

5.0

Rebecca is the 1938 classic novel that has imprinted itself on literature. Rebecca is the first wife of Maxim de Winter, deceased, who still seems to haunt the mansion of Pemberley, even as a year has passed and Maxim has remarried. Our narrator is the young second Mrs. de Winter, whose name is never revealed.

The novel is beautiful and haunting, as expected. Perhaps a little slow to start, as many older works are for me, but I zoomed through the second half. I love how it resolved and ended and was thrilled that I had no foreknowledge of the plot. Now I want to see the old movie, too!
