The Varieties of Religious Experience: A Study in Human Nature by Matthew Bradley, William James

4.0

Engaging, sometimes sparkling prose. Although I disagree with James at certain points, his acknowledges the provisionality of his conclusions, so I'm left feeling well disposed towards him. I think he uses far too many long quotations to make his case - the main body of the text and the footnotes feel crammed with them - but these are easily skimmed over. The Oxford World's Classics edition has a really helpful introduction and explanatory notes.
