Nineteen Eighty-Four by George Orwell
5.0
George Orwell's 1984 is a dystopian novel, and also falls under the criterion of political fiction. It was published in 1949, and portrays a futuristic world based in a totalitarian super State. The entire book is written in past tense, while imagining a future.
1984 was Orwell's last literary work. The book imagines and examines a time period where war never ceases to exist. It's a time when even a person's thoughts are not private.
The most interesting part is, that after reading it, we feel like we are already moving towards the future imagined in it, albeit slowly if not in entirety. The book can also evoke mixed reviews, because of the way it is written. I believe this can be read even during teen years, when one is developing the idea about the contemporary world. At different stages of life, this book can be interpreted differently. That's the beauty of the Orwellian world.
The smell of boiled cabbage, the rules of Newspeak, and the imagination of what terror lies behind the door of room 101, now live rent-free in my head.
