The Woman in Black by Susan Hill
3.0
2,5/5. Well it wasn't for me... I had high hope for this one and the beginning of it had me, with the beautiful writing and the atmospheric settings the author describe so well. Unfortunately it stops there! I like a good ambiance or atmosphere for sure, but it should be there as a background for a story. In this book, it takes all the place and there isn't much more lefty to anything else.
The story could have been original when it was originally published, I don't know I wasn't even born yet, but reading it today, you know exactly where it's gonna end even before starting it and it never surprise you in any way. This sub-genre as been so work on in book, but also a lot in movie and TV Show, and I might enjoy them on TV (currently watching The Haunting of Bly Manor and so far so good!!, The Haunting of Hill House was a true master-piece!), but I have a harder time enjoying them in book.
So I can enjoy this kind of story, and should have, but I didn't. I find it slow, predictable and even if the atmosphere was great, it isn't enough in my opinion to make it a good read!
