Patriot by Alexei Navalny

This is a powerful, inspiring and difficult book to read. It’s divided into two parts: the first an autobiography and the second a prison journal. Navalny’s stories of growing up and his perspective on his beloved country are full of rich detail and nuance. The journals he kept during his three-plus years of imprisonment at the end of his life are powerful and poignant. Not only did he demonstrate strength and perseverance during his increasingly more punitive imprisonment, but he left a record of how to resist and fight a brutal dictator like Putin. Navalny’s stories of bravery and sacrifice are ones you won’t soon forget.
