I have never read a memoir before, I’m grateful to have this one as my first. It wasn’t a roller coaster of emotions but more like a full on drop, a down pour the further I read. However I found it therapeutic. I found myself relating to the author and understanding their complicated relationship with their mother. Zauner was able to encompass emotions I’ve felt, but have struggled to put into words. I found myself thinking as I read, “exactly” when she discussed feeling so unsure about herself because she wasn’t quite Korean enough or American enough. Also the detailed food descriptions alone make the book worth a read. Have a snack and a box of tissues handy as you read you’ll be crying your eyes out as well as be hungry 😅
