Station Eleven by Emily St. John Mandel

5.0

This was an oddly comforting read, despite the existential horror and grief permeating most of it. A melancholy, hopeful and utterly humane look into a world-ending disaster. The writing feels like it tries too hard in the initial pages, it sometimes trips and falls in its attempt to profundity, but it evens out remarkably quickly and there's some flashes of brilliance as well. Hence why it deserves a 5-star rating anyway. I'm very glad I decided to give it a chance.
