The Silent Patient centers on Alicia Berenson, a successful painter who seemingly has the perfect life until she is found standing over the body of her husband, Gabriel, after shooting him five times in the face. Following this, Alicia stops speaking entirely and is admitted to a psychiatric institution, where she remains mute.
The novel starts strong, pulling you in with the mysterious case of Alicia Berenson, who stops speaking after allegedly murdering her husband. The narrative, interspersed with her diary entries, keeps you guessing and builds suspense effectively.
However, the pacing slows down in the middle, and some twists feel a bit forced or predictable. The final twist is clever but may not resonate with everyone. While the book is engaging, it doesn't quite reach the heights of the genre's best. A solid read but not extraordinary—3,5 stars.
