I'm really not a science person, but I feel like there's something in it for everyone. But an appreciation for science and maths might help, though it's perfectly understandable for even an idiot like me. I found the flashback sections mostly boring and difficult to get through. I really enjoyed the very well-thought-out differences in culture and language based on a species' evolved traits and environment (I'm an anthropology nerd).
