I was really into this story in the beginning. I wanted to know more about the magic system and how this world functions.
This book follows Annev and his villan origin story buy flipping around the chosen one trope. I was a little worried cause the chosen one trope is not my favourite. I find it cheezy and hard to feel the stakes knowing that this character will save the world from the beginning. Also his accomplishments feel easy because he is the chosen one. However, I am very intrigued to see how I like this flipped chosen one trope by following the villain of the story. So far, I am enjoyed this first installment in the series but I am mostly excited for Annev to grow up for the plot and scope of the story to expand. What I struggled most within this book was that Annev's choices and reactions were very dumb. I understand that he was a teenage in this book but I just wanted him to think through his actions (aka Sodar vs Myriam). I'm hoping that in future books he thinks about his actions more and we get to see him grow and learn.
