The Name of the Wind by Patrick Rothfuss
3.0
Enjoyable book, a page-turner. It kept me engrossed and amused and some of the bits of the story are particularly nicely told. I loved the chapter on Kvothe's entrance exam.
But it's pretty flawed too. Mostly the story is just too much, a sprawling mess of events and exciting happenings that would have been more coherently told as a series of connected novellas. Also I hate to say this, but apparently it's impossible now to write a fantasy novel about kids in a school for wizards. The sections on The University just read like a mediocre Harry Potter retread. That's not fair; I think this book is way more interesting and adult in many ways. But unfortunately there's no way to avoid the comparison.
