The Last One by Will Dean
5.0
It’s been a while since Caz (Caroline) took a vacation from her duties at the cafe’ that she and her sister operated. So when her partner Pete booked a cross Atlantic cruise aboard the ocean liner, RMS Atlantica, Caz was ready. A little apprehensive, but ready. Especially since Pete managed to snag VIP passage for a song.
After taking part in the required ship’s muster drill, Caz and Pete settle in for a scrumptious dinner filled with fine wine, luscious appetizers and entrees. It was an evening to remember. Little did Caz know that her evening to remember would be her last luxury moment on board.
I wasn’t expecting much from The Last One. But it turned out to be the best surprise in 448 pages. I could not put it down. There were numerous plot twists and just when I thought I had it figured out, Bam! Another twist enters the fray.
There were just a handful of characters. It wasn’t just Caz on board the ship as I soon found out. That was a welcome turn of events. And all of the characters brought a little something to add to the mix. Most of the characters surprised me, having the guts and brainpower to overcome obstacles and adversity that flew their way.
With a jaw dropping finale, The Last One is certainly a novel that I won’t soon forget. It’s Survivor on steroids, and sure to please reality TV aficionados. Five outstanding stars.
