Another masterpiece from R. F. Kuang! The levels of satire in this book are phenomenal and cutting. Kuang depicts the racism and mental gymnastics many white people do to justify to others and themselves they're not racist or doing anything wrong perfectly and with absolute clarity. Her criticism of the publishing industry and writing was also incredibly interesting. I think it's a testament to the opacity of the publishing industry that the process of getting a book publishing is so opaque that a book about writing and publishing doesn't make that process clear in the slightest. What also comes across in Yellowface is how solitary being an aspiring and successful author is. June has no friends and most of her interactions with others in the industry are all to do with image and money.
Yellowface is a book I will be reading again and again as I think it's one of those books you will get something different from each time you read it.
